After leaving Pidgin Point Lighthouse, Polly, Helen, and I stopped at Davenport for lunch. A person there told Polly that the best way to get to Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park was to go up Bonnie Doon Road from Hiway 1. It was nice, going from the coastal shrub into the redwoods of Big Basin. We only saw a bit of the burned area. Polly had wanted to see the trees that were recovering by sprouting directly out of the charred trunks. We did pass a few of those. We came to Felton and given choices, decided to get gas there. The price wasn't bad. It was a short drive to the park. I don't think I have ever been there, because I think I would certainly remember. I have seen many forests, and this might have been the prettiest. Just awesome redwoods, with a well-maintained paths that meandered through them for about a mile, but also kept you off of the roots. These trees were bigger than the ones at Muir Woods and possibly the ones at Armstrong Redwoods.
You should really go there...
Click on the smaller pictures below to make them big... real big ... or small again. They will look the best if you hit F11 to toggle your browser bars. I doubt they will look right on a phone.
Map of the Park.
The Big Foot Museum looks neat enough, but you have to make reservations.
