About 12 miles or so north of the Golden Gate is this old barrel Windmill atop a building. I always thought it was interesting.

This is pretty typical of what you see along the hiway. This is what you would see all the way inland until you are through Napa and the Wine Country.
This is pretty typical of what you see along the hiway towards the coast, vineyards nestled up to the forested mountains.
You leave Hiway 101 onto River Road just north of Santa Rosa. About 1/2 mile in is Mike's Fruit Stand, always the first stop of the journey.
Wine Wine Wine
This is the recreational area of the Bay Area, so any eatery you go to, even just a small store, is likely to serve some very good food with craft beers and local wines.
I always like to stop at the Korbel Winery. That is the storage and aging house, but among the trees is the old wood panelled tasing room where you can find which grapes did especially well the past year.

Further along the river, the fields flood too often for vines.
There are vacation homes and homes where people live all year round. It is beautiful, but everyone knows that the river is going to rise. If not this year, maybe next.
The land is covered with weathered farms. Mostly these are about cattle that wander the grassy mountains.
As you near the shore, the river gets bigger and bigger.
It is always green and lush as you get nearer the ocean. You may see shore birds like this Egret.

The mouth of the river is the gateway to the beauty of the North Coast.
